Heavy
duty truck maintenance issues to chew on
- Weight makes heat and heat makes wear -the heavier you haul
the more maintenance required - shorter service intervals.
- Dirt hides the sources of maintenance cost leaks - dirt
traps heat, hides loose fasteners and prevents putting an "eye" on potential
trouble spots. The moral - keep what's inside the frame rails clean with high
pressure spray.
- Trucking manufactures are notorious for having customers testing
new products at the customers cost. -don't be the first to try a new major
component or truck model unless you are prepared for uncompensated down time.
Often, (too often!) new truck equipment products don't work out well, particularly
early on.
- Remember, low price is not as important as low risk. Poorly
engineered new trucks and or poorly maintained used trucks are lower priced for a reason.
The market place figures this out and assigns appropriate relative values at the
used auction block.
