Twenty Fifteen years ago I switched from a career in truck leasing to
one of truck sales
with a plan to demonstrate and prove that; An
aggressive focus toward equity in quality equipment offers simple, low risk truck
operation and wealth building opportunities. ...Or, "How to beat the big guys at
their own game"
It proved out. Years later, nearly every one of my customers have been successful through some of the most stressful periods the trucking industry has had in its' 100 year history. A focus area of the truckweb site is to share some of the classic success tips that work nearly every time for smaller, possibly greener, truck users and owners.
Sure, because equipment equity is financial wealth, equity is what the bankers look at, along with pay back history to determine if you are loan worthy for future wealth building projects. If you use care in choosing a quality truck as a fine tool, you will own an instrument that can help produce profits for a very long time.
Quality is a must because a good definition of quality is the ability to last, if cared for. High maintenance and depreciation costs will seldom build wealth. Few buyers will pay equity dollars for a used piece of equipment that is perceived to be of poor quality, poor specifications or poorly maintained.
Knowledge of where and how to utilize a truck, to maintain it and a modest down payment in quality equipment with two or three years of payments will produce equity. You will earn, produce equity and own equipment that will give you the options to continue to operate for the next two, three and in some cases ten or more years. Or, sell, quickly at any point in-between. Quick equity in quality equipment equals future flexibility.
If you are going to own trucks, long term, it is simpler to pay a bit more for quality equipment and reduce your overall risk. Your equipments reliability is likely to be higher for a longer period of time(often extra years). Meanwhile, quality used equipment sells first and for the highest amount, even in the worst of times.

You can Position; for reliability, for equity, for safety, for flexibility, for the driver, to a market. Actually, it is easier to do than to write about but it works nearly every time. In this site I try to show give examples and demonstrate some of the how's' and whys' that makes the system work so very well.
This site is about successful trucking or successful truck ownership more than about any specific truck deals you may find posted on the site. I believe smaller smarter, operators are good for the truck transportation industry and the nation (provides jobs and independence for the little guy who can live in out of the way places).
Being smartly independent, small truck operators can take the advantage back, away from the leasing companies large fleets and truck manufacturers. I believe the smaller heavy duty truck owner/operator can even be more efficient than the large, especially with the continued development of broadband communications systems, and the software/web/cell ties that will aid in making good decisions, quickly and allow them to market their services. They (the small) already inherently have the advantage of being closer to the equipment (key tools) they own, leading to smarter decisions relating to the equipment and its' utilization.
For Large and Small, the future of many more truck related careers can be bright and profitable to the degree that we all help insure the success of the smaller guy. That (presence of the small) is what will keep the industry vibrant, full of fresh ideas. And, that is what this site is ultimately about.
For those of you who are looking to buy a truck, first check out a dealer that knows what their doing, not to far off your beaten path. If you are using a truck to enter a market niche, then talk (phone, email) to a dealership that specializes in that market.
I own this web site but still work at Fort Wayne Truck Center, a Kenworth Truck dealership that specializes in building and selling very nice trucks at fair pricing. You can e-mail me there at ldoctor@ palmertrucks.com
Thanks for visiting.
